PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 5,713 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 5,865 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 2,396,244.

He said the total number of infections now stands at 2,492,343.

There were 555 patients being treated in intensive care, 519 of whom were confirmed to be Covid-19 positive and 36 suspected of being infected.

Meanwhile, 280 patients required respiratory assistance, with 218 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 62 suspected to be positive.

There were 5,681 local infections today, comprising 5,392 Malaysians and 289 foreigners, and 32 imported cases.

Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 1.6% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0, or R-nought) stood at 0.94, with Putrajaya having the highest R0 at 1.07 followed by Negeri Sembilan with 1.02.

Kuala Lumpur, Perlis and Melaka all recorded an R0 of 1.01 while Selangor stood at 1.0.

The other states and federal territories were all below 1.0, with Labuan the lowest at 0. — Free Malaysia Today
