PETALING JAYA: There were 562 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.
Of this, 342 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 220 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.
Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 147, followed by Penang (57) and Perak (53).
A total of 585 patients were also discharged yesterday.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 29% of their total capacity of 880 beds.
The use of ICU beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Kuala Lumpur (60%). Selangor’s capacity was at 50%.
A total of 157 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 18% of their maximum capacity.
The use of normal Covid-19 beds exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (66%) and Selangor (55%).
In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 57% capacity while 55% of ICUs were in use.
No new clusters were reported yesterday.
