470,000 requests to hire foreign workers as of April 1

PUTRAJAYA: As of April 1, the human resources ministry has received 475,678 applications to recruit foreign workers.

Human resources minister M Saravanan said of the total, 290,248 applications were for workers in the manufacturing sector, followed by the services (77,000), plantation (53,854), construction (43,519), agriculture (11,037), mining and quarry (20) sectors.

Saravanan said the applications were currently being processed.

Several applications could not be processed due to various reasons, he added, among them due to incomplete or inaccurate information and for exceeding the quota.
