PETALING JAYA: Lawyer Rosli Dahlan has been granted an interim injunction to restrain former Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Adam from making any statement over an alleged defamatory video in his Facebook account last month.
Rosli, who is helping 1MDB recover funds through settlements, was granted the gag order by judicial commissioner Mohd Arief Emran Ariffin at the Kuala Lumpur High Court this morning.
In two videos posted on his Facebook account last month, Lokman accused Rosli of receiving up to RM1.7 billion in legal fees from the Goldman Sachs settlement and RM283 million from the AmBank settlement. Lokman also alleged that Rosli used the fee to give PPBM a commission of RM500 million.
1MDB later issued a statement stating that the lawyers working on the cases were paid based on pre-agreed hourly rates and not commission or a percentage of the value of settlements reached or assets recovered.
In his affidavit, Rosli said Lokman had deleted the first video but failed to remove the second. As such, Rosli is claiming RM50 million as aggravated and exemplary damages.
Rosli also said Lokman had seriously injured his integrity, credit, goodwill and/or reputation, as well as eroded the trust and the confidence of the public in his personal and professional capacity.
Meanwhile, anti-corruption watchdog Center to Combat Corruption & Cronyism (C4 Center) has deleted its social media postings making several allegations against Rosli.
In a letter to Rosli, C4 Center’s lawyer, Gurdial Singh Nijar, said his client had no intention to defame him and sought a meeting to discuss his demands.
According to a letter of demand sighted by FMT last week, Rosli wanted C4 Center to issue an “unequivocal public apology” and has demanded RM10 million in compensation over its alleged defamatory claims against him on social media.
The letter said the social media posts by C4 Center also implied that Rosli was a crony of PPBM and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. — Free Malaysia Today
