PETALING JAYA: There were 1,841 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.
Of this, 1,164 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 677 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.
Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 328, followed by Johor (243) and Perak (237).
Meanwhile, 1,376 patients were discharged yesterday.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 41% of their total capacity of 868 beds.
ICU beds in eight regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Putrajaya (67%), Perlis (64%), Kelantan (60%), Johor (59%), Kuala Lumpur (58%), Sabah (55%), Melaka (53%) and Selangor (51%).
A total of 194 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 40% capacity.
The use of normal Covid-19 beds have exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (113%), Kuala Lumpur (106%), Perak (102%), Kelantan (93%), Perlis (91%), Pahang (70%), Putrajaya (67%), Johor (66%), Sarawak (64%) Penang (61%) and Sabah (53%).
In terms of public hospitals (Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients), non-critical beds were at 69% capacity while 62% of ICUs were in use.
Nine clusters were also reported yesterday.
