PETALING JAYA: There were 1,743 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.
Of this, 1,000 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 743 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.
Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 300, followed by Perak (185) and Johor (175).
A total of 1,602 patients were also discharged yesterday.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 42% of their total capacity of 882 beds.
ICU beds in eight regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Putrajaya (100%), Kuala Lumpur (69%), Kelantan (65%), Perlis (64%), Selangor (59%), Johor (62%), Melaka (53%), and Sarawak (51%).
A total of 233 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 26% of their maximum capacity.
The use of normal Covid-19 beds have exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (95%), Kuala Lumpur (89%), Putrajaya (84%), Melaka (82%), Terengganu (82%), Perak (81%), Perlis (78%), Sarawak (71%), Kelantan (65%), Johor (56%) and Pahang (53%). Penang recorded 50% capacity.
In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 69% while 58% of ICUs were in use. — Free Malaysia Today
