1,669 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 42% capacity

PETALING JAYA: There were 1,669 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 995 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 674 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 277, followed by Johor (184) and Perak (184).

A total of 1,550 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 42% of their total capacity of 886 beds.

ICU beds in eight regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Perlis (73%), Kuala Lumpur (70%), Putrajaya (67%), Kelantan (63%), Johor (60%), Selangor (56%), Sarawak (52%) and Perak (51%).

A total of 225 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 25% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (95%), Kuala Lumpur (92%), Putrajaya (83%), Perlis (79%), Perak (79%), Terengganu (78%), Sarawak (70%), Melaka (68%), Negeri Sembilan (62%), Kelantan (60%), Johor (55%), Pahang (54%), and Penang (52%).

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 69% while 59% of ICUs were in use.

Nine clusters were also reported yesterday.
