1,555 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 41% capacity

PETALING JAYA: There were 1,555 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 963 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 592 were in Categories 3, 4 and 5.

Johor had the highest number of new admissions with 226, followed by Selangor (207) and Perak (183).

Meanwhile, 1,379 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were operating at 41% of their total capacity of 871 beds.

ICU beds in eight regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Kelantan (70%), Putrajaya (67%), Kuala Lumpur (65%), Johor (63%), Melaka (61%), Perak (58%), Perlis (55%) and Sabah (53%).

A total of 193 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 35% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (106%), Kuala Lumpur and Perak (91%), Kelantan (87%), Putrajaya (84%), Perlis (78%), Pahang (69%), Johor (68%), Sabah (60%), Penang (57%) and Sarawak (55%).

In terms of public hospitals’ total capacity (Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients), usage of non-critical beds was at 68% while that for ICUs was 61%.

Three clusters were reported yesterday.
