PETALING JAYA: There were 1,260 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.
Of this, 737 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 523 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.
Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 205, followed by Johor (161) and Perak (129).
A total of 1,307 patients were also discharged yesterday.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 40% of their total capacity of 886 beds.
ICU beds in five regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Kuala Lumpur (63%), Kelantan (58%), Johor (57%), Selangor (57%) and Perak (51%).
A total of 199 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 22% of their maximum capacity.
The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (89%), Putrajaya (88%), Terengganu (78%), Kuala Lumpur (75%), Perak (68%), Melaka (68%), Perlis (66%), and Sarawak (56%). Kelantan recorded 50% capacity.
In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 65% while 59% of ICUs were in use.
Two new clusters were also reported yesterday.
